WHAT WE DO:
The Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the TLTC, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Senate Council on Student Experience come together annually to recognize teaching excellence at the annual Celebration of Teaching.
This event takes place during the last week of May and serves to acknowledge the teaching excellence of Senate faculty, Lecturers, and Teaching Assistants. There are two categories of awards: School Honorees and Campuswide Awards.
One Senate faculty member is selected by his or her dean to be honored by the School for teaching excellence. Criteria for selection are left solely to the dean's discretion. Honorees receive an engraved plaque from the TLTC at the Celebration.
Campuswide awards are competitive, and recipients are selected by members of the Council on Student Experience. These awards include:
* Professor of the Year ($1000)
* Lecturer of the Year ($1000)
* Pedagogical Innovation ($1000)
* TA Development ($1000)
* Most Promising Future Faculty Member (Awarded to two graduate students who each receive a 1-quarter dissertation fellowship and fee waiver)
* Technology Innovation ($1500)
All members of the campus community are invited to participate in the annual Celebration of Teaching. The call for honorees and nominations for the campuswide awards typically go out toward the end of winter quarter via a campus-wide e-mail.
