According to a recent Pew study, undergraduates are 100 times more likely to search for an answer online than in a book. 93% of undergraduates have a Facebook and/or Myspace account. Moreover, 60% of students with cell phones prefer instant messaging over voice communication.
The primary focus of this workshop is the consideration of leveraging technology for effective and efficient teaching. Given current trends within the undergraduate demographic, instructors have a wealth of free or inexpensive tools that can be used to capitalize on these trends. Subsequently, this workshop will survey four so-called emergent technologies that emphasize connectivity and creativity. During this workshop, we will review collaborative technologies such as Google Docs, SlideShare, Del.icio.us and Wikipedia.
